CDL renewed its support for the NTU National Vertical Marathon for the second year running. The national sports event was organised by students from the Nanyang Technological University Sports Club.
:: NUS CSR Awareness Month 2008
In line with its efforts to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts amongst tomorrow’s leaders, CDL was a key supporter of “CSR Awareness Month” for the second year running. The event is a joint initiative of the NUS Students’ CSR Group and the MBA Students’ Corporate Ethics Focus Group of NUS Business School, and is supported by Singapore Compact for CSR.
:: National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA)
A long-time supporter of the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA), CDL has been contributing significantly to many of NYAA’s initiatives that are aimed at bringing out the best in young Singaporeans. These include the NYAA Young Entrepreneurs Programme and Young Photographers Network, of which CDL’s Managing Director, Mr Kwek Leng Joo, is a Patron. In recognition of the Group’s continued partnership and generous support towards youth development, CDL was conferred The Distinguished Partner of the NYAA in 2007.

:: NTU National Vertical Marathon 2007
A firm supporter of youth development, CDL contributed to the National Vertical Marathon organised by students from the Nanyang Technological University Sports Club. Held for the first time at CDL’s flagship building, Republic Plaza, and also one of the three tallest buildings in Singapore at 280 metres high, the event drew 1,629 sports enthusiasts – the largest number of participants in the event’s 13-year history. Apart from the sponsorship of the venue, CDL introduced the CDL Corporate Challenge category to encourage its office tenants, partners and business associates to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
:: South West CDC YEAH! Programme
CDL is Founding Partner of Youth Excellence Award in the Heartlands (YEAH!). Administered by the South West Community Development Council, this volunteer award scheme recognises youths aged 13 to 25 years for their exemplary volunteering efforts towards the community. Besides promoting community involvement among youths, the scheme also helps groom youths to be leaders and initiators of community service projects.
Phase 1 of YEAH! was launched in October 23 2003. In each phase, participants are required to fulfil specific hours and complete projects of their choice in areas of community involvement and Personal Development. Being a non-competitive scheme, YEAH! aspires to spur on the community self-help spirit and develop greater social cohesiveness through its community-oriented programmes.
:: 36th CDL-Singapore National Bowling Championships 2005
City Developments Limited is the main sponsor of the 36th National Bowling Championships organised by the Singapore Tenpin Bowling Congress between 17 and 25 June 2005 at Cathay Bowl Safra Tampines.
Supporting the Championships for the 7th year since 1998, CDL's contribution to the popular sport is recognised by the community and bowling fraternity as the event is widely known as the ultimate platform for Singapore's best to showcase their talent.
:: CDL Bursary Awards for Singapore Polytechnic
In support of needy students at Singapore Polytechnic, CDL presents two bursary awards to deserving students each year. The awards cover the students’ tuition and miscellaneous fees.
:: Inaugural CDL-BCA Scholarships Boosts Construction Industry
Demonstrating its commitment to youth development and education in Singapore, CDL presented two construction industry scholarships in 2001. The BCA-CDL Scholarships will cover four-year degree courses in Civil Engineering and Building Science at NUS. By attracting promising tertiary students to pursue construction-related degree courses, CDL hopes to proactively raise standards in the construction industry.
:: Hong Leong Donates $1.5 Million for Professorship in Ophthalmology
CDL, together with sister companies of the Hong Leong Group, donated $1.5 million to set up the Hong Leong Professorship in Ophthalmology at the National University of Singapore.
This donation engaged eminent professors in ophthalmology to help expand clinical and laboratory research initiatives aimed at explaining causes of eye diseases and identifying the risk factors.
:: Young Entrepreneurs Programme
CDL is the sole sponsor of this programme, which was set up by the National Youth Achievement Award Council in 1998. Sanctioned by the Singapore Trade Development Board, the programme serves to nurture a strong entrepreneurial spirit in young Singaporeans, and help them learn to become effective risk managers who are both action- and result-oriented. The YEP is affliated to Junior Achievement International with a worldwide membership of 96 countries.
