The 3rd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award (view website)
A firm supporter of the arts, City Developments Limited (CDL) has been contributing significantly to the Singapore arts scene for more than a decade. The CDL Singapore Sculpture Award is an extension of the Group’s patronage of the arts, and reinforces its long-standing commitment in supporting the development of arts and youth in Singapore. First initiated and introduced by CDL in 2002, the biennial Award is now being held for the 3rd time.
The 1st and 2nd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award held in 2003 and 2005 respectively yielded many memorable pieces and revealed numerous young talents in the Student category. Reed Sculpture, the winning work for the 1st Award has since been commissioned and installed at The Pier along Robertson Quay. Plans to commission the winning entry from the 2nd Award for installation at the upcoming City Square Mall are underway.
For the 3rd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award, the National Parks Board has offered a site at East Coast Park for the display of the winning sculpture.
If appropriate and relevant, CDL will commission and install the winning entry of the 3rd Award at this designated site which lies adjacent to the Extreme Skate Park (expected to be completed by mid 2008).
The winning works and selected entries from the competition were showcased at The 3rd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award Exhibition, held at Singapore Art Museum from 20 – 26 September 2007.

Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA)
The Singapore Young Photographer Award was initiated by CDL, in partnership with five major photoclubs, the Singapore Art Museum and National Youth Achievement Award Council, to nurture young local photography talents. Besides managing this national-level initiative to promote photography amongst youths, CDL also introduced a sub-category award, “CDL Young Architectural Photographer Award” that aims to identify and groom young talents specialising in architectural photography, which complements CDL’s core business as a developer. The inaugural competition reached out to 185 secondary schools, junior colleges, tertiary institutions, art schools, youth organisations, major photo clubs, libraries and community centres.

To Singapore with Love on her 40th Birthday
To celebrate four decades of independence, CDL Managing Dir ector Mr Kwek Leng Joo initiated the project To Singapore with Love, a photo tribute to Singapore on her 40th birthday. Five major photo clubs including Boon Lay CC Photo Club, PhotoArt Association of Singapore, SAFRA Photo Club, Singapore Colour Photographic Society and The Photographic Society of Singapore, as well as a few established writers such as Kirpal Singh and Philip Jeyaretnam together with a few professionals banded together to implement the project. This limited edition 264-page hard-back photo art book contains a delightful selection of 330 images illustrating the vibrancy and uniqueness of our people, arts & culture and nature.
Officially launched at the Singapore Art Museum by His Excellency President S R Nathan on 5 July 2005, To Singapore with Love also celebrates our nation's vision, vigour and splendour. Excerpts from the book were exhibited at the Istana on 7 August as part of the Istana Art Event 2005 on its National Day open house. Singapore Art Museum also displayed selected photo works between 6 and 11 August, while a major exhibition on the photo works was held at the new Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Gallery 1 & 2 from 18 to 23 August.
CDL, being one of the major sponsors, is pleased to support this worthy national project and to be able to play a part in furthering the cause of photography and elevating its standard amongst other visual arts in Singapore.
The 2nd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award
The CDL Singapore Sculpture Award was first initiated and organised by CDL in 2002. The Award aims to recognise and encourage creativity in youth and local artists in the field of Sculpture and to promote the appreciation of the art form among Singaporeans.
The 2nd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award received an overwhelming response and saw an increase of over 40% in entries this year. Participants communicated the theme "Live, Work and Play" using a wide range of expression, sculptural form and materials to complement CDL's landmark luxury residential development The Sail @ Marina Bay. The winning entries in the Open Category and Student Category were "The Wind, Her Rain, and a Cloud Meets with a Tree in the Monsoon Season" by Yeo Chee Kiong and "Sparkler" by Xu Ming Qing respectively. All winning works as well as a selection of short-listed entries were also exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum in May 2005.
The CDL Singapore Sculpture Award reinforces CDL's long-standing commitment to the development of the arts and youth in Singapore.
Earth From Above
CDL is proud to be one of the supporting sponsors for this internationally-acclaimed exhibition of aerial photographs by renowned French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Presented by the French Embassy and the Singapore Environment Council, Earth from Above is one of the highlights of this year’s Clean and Green Week programme. Shot from a helicopter, over 100 countries, the 120 pictures displayed on giant boards tell a compelling story of ecological destruction caused by the over-consumption, production and exploitation of our Earth’s dwindling resources.
Birds Seen at the Istana To promote nature appreciation and conservation, CDL was one of the sponsors for Birds Seen at the Istana, a Singapore Environment Council publication commissioned by President SR Nathan to celebrate the presence of migratory birds that have found their home on the Istana grounds. Proceeds from the sale of this publication went towards the President's Challenge.
A Heroic Decade CDL was the sole sponsor for an art exhibition "A Heroic Decade" presented at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) from July to September 2005. This exhibition commemorated Singapore's 40th year of independence and featured about 70 poignant works from the SAM and private collections on Singapore during the 1950s and 1960s - decades that were pivotal in transforming the social and political landscapes of then Malaya. It showcased life during that historical era prior to Singapore's independence in the eyes of the artists. CDL lent its support for this event not only because of its commitment to promote the arts, but also in view of CDL's role in nation-building and shaping the cityscape of Singapore.
CDL - A Faithful Friend of the Arts
Since 1997, CDL has been an annual recipient of the Friend of the Arts Award from the National Arts Council in recognition of its contribution to the arts community. CDL is honoured to be a Friend of the Arts. The Group is committed to developing the local arts scene and promoting outstanding foreign art to Singaporeans.

Marina Magic Photography Competition Centred on the theme "Live, Work and Play", the Marina Magic Photo Competition was launched on 30 September 2004 as part of the launch celebrations of The Sail @ Marina Bay, CDL's latest landmark waterfront residential development. The competition aimed to showcase the vitality and excitement of the Marina Bay area through snapshots of people, places and activities around the locale.
The competition saw a total of 521 entries from professional and amateur photographers, as well as youths below 21 years old. The top 3 winning entries selected from each category were exhibited at The Sail Art Gallery. Opened in December 2004, The Sail Art Gallery at The Sail Show Suites, is a pioneering initiative that aims to contribute to the development of local art by providing a free platform for artists to showcase their talents.
CDL Sponsors Singapore’s First Art Bridge CDL sponsored the painting of The Alkaff Bridge, Singapore's first Art Bridge that spans the Singapore River at Robertson Quay in a project initiated by the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. Designed by the late Paris-based Filipino artist Pacita Abad, the trademark colours and jubilant shapes of the "bridge of art" adds a dash of vibrancy that transforms the landscape into a colourful kaleidoscope.

CDL Singapore Sculpture Award Exhibition
The CDL Singapore Sculpture Award 2003 was established to promote interest and raise standards in the creation and appreciation of sculptures as an art form in Singapore.
This inaugural contest saw entries from Singaporeans from all walks of life communicating the theme of "Wind and Water" through traditional cast metals, glass, as well as found materials. The winning piece, Reed Sculpture, will be commissioned for The Pier at Robertson, a trendy and upmarket development along the Singapore River.

Giving the Arts a Boost: Sculpture Carnival 2002
In sponsoring Sculpture Carnival 2002 held between 23 and 26 May, themed "Asian Folk Tales", CDL embraced the invaluable opportunity of educating and exposing so many children to 3-D art as a form of creative expression. Singapore Festival of Arts 2002 CDL has been a supporter of the Singapore Arts Festival since 1999. 2002 was the third consecutive year CDL supported the Finale in its premises. Held between 1 0 and 22 June, the 2002 event "The Concert of Fire" by the Percussion Commandos (France) culminated in an adrenalin-pumping barrage of percussion and fireworks that dazzled audiences.

Masterworks of Southeast Asian Paintings
CDL was a sponsor of this exhibition held from 7 June to 29 August 2000, which showcased about 100 masterpieces by Southeast Asian artists dating from 1800s to the 1960s. The artworks were selected from private and institutional collectiohas bens from around the world, and many of them had rarely been publicly exhibited.
Inspirit Crossing CDL was co-sponsor of this premiere exhibition held from 17 April to 27 June 2000 which aimed to introduce contemporary indigenous Canadian art to the Singaporean public and promote the exchange of cultural and artistic ideas, educational activities, talks and tours. About 60-70 artworks ranging from sculpture and prints with a selection of artifacts like weaving /textiles was specially brought in from the Canadian Museum of Civilisation, the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Museum of Anthropology and the National Art Gallery in Ottawa.

Sculpture Square
CDL is a founding sponsor of Sculpture Square. Located in the Waterloo Street arts belt, Sculpture Square is slated to be a regional hub for contemporary 3-D art to be traded, promoted and presented in accessible and informative ways. The Gallery was opened in October 1999.
